An orthopaedic surgeon once said to me that toes were just decorations for the foot.  Podiatrists and Podiatric Surgeons know better!  Many diabetic foot infections that result in below knee amputations unfortunately start with a toe deformity and infection.  However you dont need to be a diabetic to suffer with annoying toe pain.  Our toes can become clawed.  Sometimes this can be referred to as a mallet toe or hammer toe.  The end result is that the toe has an unusual shape that often rubs on footwear.  Sometimes corns and wounds (ulcerations) can then occur on the prominent areas.  There are many permanent options available.  Dr Burke Hugo is a foot specialist (Podiatric Surgeon) who can provide you with expert advice and treatment.  It may be easier than you think!
